Tour Guide for Uncle Mark – Day Won

So today was the first day that the sun has decided to show up in the past couple days. Yesterday the north shore received 17 inches of rain, which is pretty much unheard of. Bridges were underwater, roads were flooded, power was out, even radio stations lost power and couldn’t broadcast. We went for a ride when we picked up our rental bikes, thinking we could outrun (outride?) the rain, and we were wrong. It was just like every seagull century ride we’ve done, minus the cold – just windy and rainy. By comparison, the west side of the island yesterday got a quarter inch of rain. That pretty much made out decision for us where we would spend our day.

We met up with some other riders early in the morning which was amazing. There were some people I had ridden with before and my friend Rolly was there which was great, I haven’t seen him in 3 years. Maybe there was a bit of selfishness in picking this date/time to go riding on the west side=, but I played it off as “I’m pretty sure it’ll be dry on that side of the island”. We had a great group of people, rode a good long flat ride and then headed up “the hill”. Mark survived, up and down, which is a huge feat. We hit up Island taco afterwords, which was amazing, and then headed back up the hill, in a car this time, to check out the sights with camera in hand.

Back in Poipu, we hit Spouting Horn and then caught a sunset at the Sheraton, possibly the best sunset spot on the island. I think in a single day we did more than most people do on an entire vacation. I’m going nto point Mark in the direction of the beach tomorrow (weather permitting) while I head back into work.

Jog To and Through Mahaulepu

I really didn’t mean for that title to rhyme, but just like so many other sentences in Hawaii, it just turned out that way. In an effort to jump start getting back in shape just in time for winter when I’ll get out of shape again I figured I would go for a run/jog/hike. Turned out that, as usual, I bit off a little more than I could chew, wound up at a horse stable and asked directions to a trailhead that I hoped would lead me back to where I started. Once I found the trail it was pretty exciting, meandered along the cliffs by Poipu Bay Golf Course and eventually dumped me out where I had hoped.
